Mangalore, Nov 21: Vijay Kumar Shetty, former MLA and general secretary, severely criticized District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar while interacting with local reporters at the DKCC office in Mangalore.
Accusing the minister for ports and fisheries of constructing palaces and shopping complexes over the graves of the poor, Mr. Shetty said that criminals are active in this district and the police are just mute spectators.
Alleging that Palemar wants money at any cost, Mr. Shetty recalled the incident in which the police kept quiet when a representative from Bangalore was kidnapped and prevented from submitting a tender worth Rs. 125 crore at the MSEZ office. He added that all his attempts to get the police in Bangalore as well as Mangalore to conduct investigations into this case have failed miserably. Mr. Shetty said that the ruling party has the entire police force in its fist and called it a “dangerous development.”
Hurling further accusations at Palemar, who had labeled Shetty as an “MSEZ opponent,” Mr. Shetty said that Palemar’s criminal activities are now coming into the open one by one. The district-in-charge minister wants contracts only for companies controlled by him and is willing to throw rules to the winds in order to get what he wants, he said.
Mr. Shetty also alleged that Palemar has obtained a BASF contract near Suratkal by totally ignoring law and that he is busy making money in Yelahanka, Bangalore.
A number of Congress leaders such as District Congress Commissioner, Ibrahim Kodijal; Vice President Ashraf; ex Mayor Shashidhar Hegde; ex Mayor D. K. Ashok Kumar; Harinath; Prithvi Raj; Nagendra; Guljar Banu; T. K. Sudhir; Praveen Alva; and others were present during the press conference.
