Mangalore, Sep 25: A family has accused Mangala Hospital of charging exorbitant fees and negligence of duty after the death of one of its members Aitha Gowda (59), who was admitted to Mangala Hospital on September 11 and diagnosed with rat fever and jaundice.
Mr. Gowda was given at least 40 bottles of blood upon doctors’ prescription. Reportedly, the patient was feeling better two days back, but the doctors declared him dead on Saturday and told the family to pay the fees of Rs. 68,000 in order to take the body. Earlier, the family had already paid Rs. 35,000.
When the family of the body saw the body, they were shocked to see that it was in a state of decomposition, illustrating that he might have died at least 3 days back. The family accused the doctors of keeping the patient’s death a secret till Saturday so that they could demand more money from them.
The hospital authorities agreed to hand over the body without the fees only after the intervention of the Kadri police.
