Facebook incident: Accused youth gets bail

Udupi, Jan 22, 2014 : A youth   who was apprehended by the police recently on the charges of posting obscene photos of  a girl on Facebook has been granted bail by the court.  It is learnt, the court agreed to release him on bail as he  is booked only on cyber crime charges and not rape.

As per reports, the accused named Mohammad Yaseer had trapped the girl in his love and had then uploaded the photos of the two in compromising position on Facebook after the girl reportedly did not yield to his demand for cash. The girl, a student of a college in Udupi had later lodged a complaint against Yaseer in Manipal police station following which he was arrested on January 10.

 The incident had sparked protests at various places with a demand heard to book the youth on rape charges. However, it is learnt it was not possible for the police to do so as the girl had reportedly admitted that the photos were taken with her consent.
