Mangalore, May 8, 2014: Bharatlal Meena, Principal Secretary to the Karnataka Government, Department of Agriculture and District in-charge Secretary has directed the MESCOM officials to ensure adequate steps to see that power cuts did not disrupt water supply in various parts of the district.
He was addressing a review meeting convened at the Netravathi Hall of the Zilla Panchayat on May 7, Wednesday to discuss the drinking water problem, fodder and fuel shortage.



Bharatlal Meena gave the above instructions when it was brought to his notice that power cuts hampered water supply. He also directed the MESCOM officials to replace the transformers which are out of order.
He further instructed the MCC Commissioner to set up a 24x7 helpline to tackle water crisis so that affected areas could be supplied water through tankers immediately.
The MCC Commissioner informed the meeting that there is sufficient water in the Tumbay dam and assured that no water problem would crop up.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim informed that the second vented dam at Tumbay is being constructed at a cost of Rs 75 crores and once it is complete all water problems would be solved.
The officials informed the meeting about the damages caused to houses and lives lost due to natural calamities.
Bharatlal Meena directed the officials to be always prompt in disbursing compensation to the affected people.
