Eminent musicians create magic at Mangala Stadium on Sunday

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 16, 2012 : The people assembled at Mangala Stadium on the night of Jan 15 Sunday were mesmerized with the performance of Kadri Gopalnath, the eminent saxophonist; Sivamani, the drummer; Praveen Godhkindi, the flutist; and Dr. Narasimhalu Vadavathi, the clarinet player. They were accompanied by Santhosh Mulekar on the keyboard, Vidwan Rajashekar on the morsing, B. Harikumar on the mridangam, and Pandit Rajendra Nakhor on the tabla.

The jugalbandi commenced with Kadri Gopalnath playing Vatapi Ganapathim Bhaje, a Carnatic classical bhajan in the Hamsadwani Raga on his saxophone, and shortly, Vadavathi on his clarinet and Godkhindi on his flute joined in.

The jugalbandhi duet commenced with a conversation between the flute and the saxophone, after which Godkhindi took over and mesmerized the audience. B. Harikumar’s mridanga performance was excellent and so was Sivamani on his drums.

The war between Sivamani’s drums and the classical instruments came to an end when Mulekar joined in with his keyboard. Although Godhkindi and Kadri Gopalnath tried to overwhelm the drummer several times, it was quite clear that Sivamani ruled the evening with his drums.

Praveen Godhkindi playing the national anthem with Mukekar and Sivamani accompanying him on keyboard and drums, respectively, marked the end of the evenings.
