Mangalore, April 10, 2024: Dr. Suresh D. Isloor, a distinguished eye and ENT surgeon serving the community of Shivamogga for over six decades, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, following an age-related illness. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Veena S. Isloor, daughter, Sucheta Prashanth Kumar Pai, and son, Suhas S. Isloor.

Dr. Isloor hailed from the prominent Goud Saraswat Brahmin "Raaya" family of Sirsi. He completed his medical graduation from Maharaja Sayajirao University at the Medical College Baroda and established Sahyadri Hospital, the first private nursing home in Shivamogga, in 1964. He was immensely popular as a doctor in Shivamogga and the neighboring districts.

Dr. Isloor pioneered the use of cornea transplantation in treating deafness caused by damaged tympanic membranes. He authored two books, ’Lacrimal Drainage Surgery’ and ’Cornea in Tympanoplasty’. Dr. Isloor was also the first ENT consultant to introduce microscopic surgeries to Shivamogga district and Karnataka state. He founded the Lions Eye Bank, the first eye bank in Shivamogga-Bhadravathi.

In 2017, he received the prestigious IMA Karnataka State Branch Doctors Day Award, popularly considered the Karnataka State Dr. BC Roy Award, for his outstanding contributions to the medical field. He held positions as the former president of the Karnataka State branch of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) and the former president of the Association of Otolaryngologists of Karnataka. He was the founder and president of ‘Taranga’, a school for hearing-impaired children in Shivamogga.
