Mangalore, Sep 22, 2011 : Dr. K. Harish Kumar took over as the commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on September 22 Thursday. Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the former commissioner of MCC, who is now the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, handed over the responsibilities of the post to the new commissioner by presenting him a book titled “Urban Fringe on Indian Cities” and a pen.
Expressing his happiness on the occasion, Dr. Vijayaprakash, said that he is delighted to hand over the post to Dr. Harish Kumar, who is the best person to continue the work of developing Mangalore city. He also expressed his gratitude to public representatives, MCC members, media persons, and the people of Mangalore for supporting all the development projects launched by the civic body.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harish Kumar lauded Dr. Vijayaprakash’s efforts to develop and beautify the city, adding that Dr. Vijayaprakash has made Mangalore recognized throughout the country. He promised that he will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor.

Dr. Kumar, a KAS 1999 topper, is from Karkala. He holds an MSc, an MPhil in organic chemistry, and a PhD in peptide chemistry.
He took over as the assistant commissioner of Puttur in July 2008.
