Mangalore, April 13, 2013 : The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has appealed to the areca growers against heeding to some false rumours set afloat by some people that the court has refused to waive off loans.
Speaking to reporters here, Sachin Meega, Vice President of Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress said though the Karnataka High Court had directed the union Finance Ministry to implement the Gorakh Singh report, it had failed to do so, resulting in contempt of court.
The High Court ruling of September 2012 was in favour of areca growers, Sachin clarified and said it was the Union Ministry which failed to honour the verdict. He said nearly 2,48,000 families which are dependent on areca farming will benefit if the total loan amounting to Rs 2008 crores is waived off, Sachin said.
Raitha Sangha’s Hasiru Sene leader B Sridhar Shetty and Ishwar Bhat Badila were present at the press meet.
