Mangalore, Aug 13, 2012: B. Ramanath Rai, president of the district Congress committee, flagged off the peace march organized by the district unit of the Congress party from the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, located at Lalbagh, to the DC’s office on August 13, Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjula Naidu, president of the State Women’s Congress, said that Mangalore, which was previously famous for its educational institutions, has lost its reputation because of acts of moral policing and communal disharmony for the past 4 years.
She also said that the Sangh Parivar is taking the law in its own hands and harassing women and girls in the name of Indian culture. Commenting on the home stay attack, she said that it has brought shame on the city, adding that the people of Mangalore need to protest against moral policing.
Manjula Naidu, MLA Dinesh Gundurao, and MLA Ramanath Rai garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandh in Lalbagh. Ivan D’Souza, secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) delivered the welcome address.
The Women’s Congress then burned the report, which was submitted to the state government by C. Manjula, chairperson of the State Women’s Rights Commission.
