Mangalore, Feb 12, 2013: MESCOM Managing Director S Sumanth said that MESCOM is equipped with an independent Regional Load Dispatch Centre located at Mangalore with SCADA facility enabling it to monitor and regulate the demand and supply of electricity.
Speaking at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme held at Press Club on Feb 12, Tuesday, he said that the peak demand for the state in Jan 2013 was 8549 MW, while it was 723 MW in MESCOM including four districts of Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
Sumanth also said that seven substations of 33/11 KV capacity including four new sub stations at Kadri, Kudroli, Nandigudde and Attavara are facilitating power supply to Mangalore city.
The other three sub-stations in Mangalore are in Mannagudda, Kankanady and Maidan. He said the works on the 110 KV sub-station of KPTCL were in progress at Bejai and Jeppu.
MESCOM will go for computerization of revenue billing and accounting, Sumanth said adding MESCOM also has a programme called Total Revenue Management which is in operation through agencies. It will also go in for computerization of all finance, accounting and MIS matters.
On the unauthorized IP Sets, Sumanth said 21,693 unauthorized IP sets have been registered for regularization and the process of regularization was in progress.
During the next eight to ten months, the MESCOM would prioritize the creation of required infrastructure for power supply to IP set installations.
The MESCOM MD further said the High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS), is being implemented in a phased manner since the past seven to eight months.
MESCOM has also been providing electricity for drinking water supply through Ganga Kalyana scheme during the year 2012-2013, he said. Sumanth further informed that MESCOM will soon have CCTV at all its offices.
It has even distributed the contact number cards to the consumers in all the 4 districts at the time of issuing of bills so that consumers can contact company’s concerned officials during emergencies.
It will issue similar cards once again during March/ April this year. Any anamoly in electricity supply or condition of electricity wires in public places can be notified to the MESCOM by contacting the numbers providing the card, he informed.
Sumanth said that the population in MESCOM limit was 61 lakhs, while the total number of MESCOM consumers stood at 18.6 lakhs, giving an annual turnover of Rs 1650 crore. Seventy per cent of the amount is paid to purchase power, he informed.
He said the distribution losses was just 12.09 per cent in MESCOM which is the lowest when compared to all ESCOMs. The losses in power distribution in Mangalore city was just 7 per cent, he informed.
MESCOM Financial Advisor Jayaram Alva and Chief Engineer Mahadev were present at the press meet.
