Mangaluru, May 29, 2025: Lokayukta officials on Wednesday caught Krishnaveni, Deputy Director of the Department of Mines and Geology, Dakshina Kannada, while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 in Mangaluru.
A Lokayukta release said that she was caught while accepting the bribe through the departments’ driver Madhu.
It stated that Krishnaveni had asked Pradeep, a staff member of the department, to take ₹50,000 from the complainant to sign a file.
The file related to permitting the complainant to level 0.35 acres of 1.39 acres of land at survey number 279/5 in Ira village, Ullal taluk, for the construction of a house by removing stones. The complainant had applied to the department for permission on October 28, 2024.
Ullal Tahsildar, in his report on March 21, 2025, had recommended that the complainant be permitted to remove the stones for constructing the house. Notwithstanding the Tahsildar’s report, the Department of Mines and Geology did not permit the same.
Lokayukta police, who have registered a case in this connection, have named Krishnaveni as accused number one, Pradeep as accused number two and Madhu as accused number three.
