Mangalore, June 5, 2012: The AJ Institute of Dental Sciences and the DK unit of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) organized a dental awareness program for the benefit of the public in the Mangalore police commissioner’s office as part of World No Tobacco Day celebrations on June 5, Tuesday.
Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, inaugurated the event and urged police officers to understand the dangers of tobacco and smoking and pass the message to others.
The students of AJ Institute of Dental Sciences presented a street play on the adverse effects of tobacco abuse. Dr. Pooja and Dr. Roshan Shetty spoke on the adverse effects of tobacco consumption. Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Chandra of the faculty of community dentistry, said that over 5 lakh people die every year because of tobacco related diseases. Tobacco is also the number one cause for oral cancer, he added.
