Mangaluru, January 30, 2026: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. has directed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure there is no disruption in drinking water supply during the upcoming summer.

He was speaking while presiding over a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority held on Thursday at the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium, to review comprehensive drinking water management in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed that immediate plans should be prepared at local body levels to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply and to prevent water scarcity in all rural and urban wards during summer. Available water sources should be identified and monitored so that water can be supplied whenever required, he said.

He further directed that officials should personally and regularly monitor water sources and distribution networks in all 14 urban local bodies and gram panchayats in the district. Tankers should be used only when absolutely necessary, and local bodies should utilise the funds available with them to provide drinking water during summer.

Seeking information on water supply within the Mangaluru City Corporation limits, the Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to take action against unauthorised connections in certain areas of the Thumbe–Netravathi water supply network. He also directed that agreements be entered into with respective gram panchayats and user charges collected.

Officials from the city corporation informed the meeting that a total of seven jackwells belonging to the corporation, various departments and industries are operating at the Thumbe Netravathi dam. They stated that, as per current estimates, the water available in the dam would be sufficient to manage drinking water requirements during the coming summer.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed that urban local bodies and gram panchayats must ensure that no complaints are received from the public regarding drinking water supply.

He also expressed displeasure with officials of the Rural Drinking Water Supply Department for failing to provide proper information at the meeting.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju K., Deputy Conservator of Forests Anthony Mariappa, Mangaluru Sub-Divisional Officer Meenakshi Arya and others were present at the meeting.
