DC orders closure of 26 hospitalsMangalore, Jan 29: The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav has directed District Health and Family Welfare Officer to take action for the closure of 26 private hospitals that have not filed applications as required under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act 2007.

Chairing a meeting to review the implementation of the Act on Friday, Mr. Yadav, who is the President of the District Review Committee, said the 26 private hospitals had not filed their applications within October 24, 2010.

Of the 26 hospitals, 14 were from Bantwal taluk, nine from Puttur, two from Mangalore taluk and one from Sullia taluk.

Mr. Yadav asked the District Health and Family Welfare Officer Srirangappa to issue notices to the 26 hospitals. He had been asked to issue notices to 186 medical establishments for submitting information related to their applications. The Act mandated that every private hospital should be registered. It made it obligatory for the hospitals to maintain a complete record of the treatment provided to patients.
