Byndoor, Jan 2, 2026: Two people were critically injured and another sustained minor injuries in a road accident involving an autorickshaw and a car on NH-66 near Uppunda on Wednesday, December 31.

The injured have been identified as Mahabala and Mohan, who are in critical condition and have been admitted to a hospital in Kundapura. The third occupant, Narayana, who suffered minor injuries, was shifted to Kundapura Hospital for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the autorickshaw was travelling from Shalebagilu towards Nagoori when it was hit by a car coming from Bhatkal towards Kundapura near the Uppunda petrol bunk. The impact of the collision reportedly threw all three occupants of the autorickshaw onto the road.

Police said the autorickshaw was completely mangled in the crash, while the car sustained partial damage. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
