Sullia, January 1, 2026: Sullia police have arrested two persons in connection with the assault and murder of a man who was lured from Sullia to Duggaladka on the pretext of hiring a car in October last year. The victim succumbed to injuries the following day.

Based on a complaint filed by Sumayya (35), a resident of Kasta village in Sullia, a murder case was registered. According to the complaint, her husband Abdul Jabbar was taken by the accused, Mohammed Rafiq and others, to Duggaladka on October 16 in the afternoon under the guise of hiring a car. He was allegedly harassed there and later brought to Sullia Kallugundi, where he was brutally assaulted, threatened with death, and then sent back home.

Murder

On October 17, Abdul Jabbar fell seriously ill at home. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he died despite treatment. Sumayya stated in her complaint filed on October 18 that the assault by Rafiq Padu and others was the cause of her husband’s death. Accordingly, a case (Crime No. 125/2025) was registered at Sullia Police Station under Section 105 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

After the medical report confirmed that Abdul Jabbar’s death was the result of the assault, the case was altered to murder under Section 103 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS.

Following the investigation, police arrested the prime accused Mohammed Rafiq (41), a resident of Sullia Kasba, produced him before the court, and obtained police custody. The car used in the crime has been seized. Another accused, Manohar K. S. alias Manu (42), a resident of Sampaje, Sullia, has also been arrested and produced before the court. Further investigation is underway, police said.
