Mangaluru, Africa, January 2, 2026: Ayan Mendon, an 11-year-old mountaineer from Mangaluru, has captured global attention by scaling Mount Kenya, the world’s third-highest mountain, following his earlier ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. Ayan hails from a Mangaluru-based family now settled in Dubai.
Ayan, the son of Vani Mendon from Attavar, Mangaluru, began mountaineering at the age of six. At just eight years old, he created history by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, on August 4, 2022, earning recognition as the youngest person in the world to achieve the feat.
At the age of nine, he went on to scale Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas, once again becoming the youngest climber to do so. Most recently, on December 30, 2025, at the age of 11, Ayan successfully climbed Mount Kenya, adding yet another remarkable achievement to his growing list.
Ayan has also completed expeditions to several renowned peaks and base camps, including the Mount Everest Base Camp, Mount Elbrus, and the Annapurna Base Camp. By conquering heights beyond what most people can imagine at such a young age, he has drawn admiration worldwide.
His achievements are backed by constant support from his parents and rigorous training under experienced professionals, enabling him to continue excelling in the demanding sport of mountaineering.
