Custodial deaths spoil reputation of police force - Seemanth Kumar

Mangalore, Mar 29: Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said at a seminar titled “Custodial Death” held at the commissionerate office on March 29, Tuesday that any custodial death at any of the 1000 police stations in Karnataka means a black mark on the entire police force. Section 302 can be slapped against the sub inspector of the police station in which custodial death takes place.

He further said that Retired ASP Ibrahim and Retired Deputy Sub Inspector P. C. M. Shareef will share their experiences and provide legal solutions to the problem of custodial death. He urged the officials gathered to make use of the information given at the seminar seriously.


Mentioning that many cases of human rights violation have been reported from police stations, he said that a workshop on this issue will also be held.


Retired ASP Ibrahim, DCP M. Muthuraya, and Retired Deputy SP P. C. M. Shareef, were also present.
