Mangalore, Sept. 30, 2012: A few councilors pointed out at the MCC council meeting held on Saturday that the interior roads of Mangalore are in a pathetic condition. In response, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar said that asphalting will be done on a regular basis depending on availability of funds.
Besides complaining about the poor condition of roads, Jayanthi Shetty of the CPI(M) said that garbage is also not being disposed in the proper manner. Councilors Deepak Poojary, Mariyamma Thomas, and Bhaskar K. also complained about poor roads.
Raising the issue of frequently digging concretized roads, councilor James D’Souza said that, while people appreciate concretized roads, they do not like it when these roads are dug up. He also said that water pipelines running beneath these roads are continuously leaking. The large sums of money invested on these roads go down the drain when they are allowed to be cut up for repair of water pipes, he added.
When councilor Appi spoke about the pathetic condition of the concretized road between Nandigudda Circle and Fr. Muller Hospital, Mr. Kumar said that the corporation will shift utility lines while widening the Mannagudda to New Chitra road stretch. Stating that this road will be widened as per international standards, he said that separate ducts will be built for utility lines. He also said that similar projects will be launched for the Mangaladevi Temple to Pandeshwar Railway Level Crossing stretch, adding that this will cost three times more than ordinary concretizing work.
Mr. Kumar also said that the MCC will get 60 new garbage containers with 500kg capacity, which will be installed all over the city.
