Mangalore, March 13, 2013 : The 108th Foundation Day of Corporation Bank and Lifetime Achievement Award presentation ceremony was inaugurated by the Bank’s Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Kumar at a function held at Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre here on March 12, Tuesday.
In his inaugural address, Ajay Kumar said the Bank founded by Khan Bahadur Haji Abdulla Kasim Saheb on March 12, 1906 at the temple town of Udupi, has in the past 107 years of its existence registered remarkable progress and has also won the love and confidence of its customers.
He said the Bank which began its first business with just 38 rupees, 13 anas and two paise on its first day of operation, has today on its 108th Foundation Day registered a total business of Rs 2,60,000 crores and has emerged one of the premiere public sector banks.
He said the Bank which has always accorded priority to its corporate social responsibility, has initiated several welfare projects . Listing out a few, he said the Bank has extended aid to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mangalore, Vivekananda Public School in Hyderabad and to the Bhagavan Mahavir Vikalang Sahayata Samithi for distribution of artificial limbs.
On this occasion, the Bank Chairman along with Executive Directors Amarlal Daultani and BK Srivastava paid tributes to the Founder by garlanding his portrait.
The Corporation Bank Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on Devendra Raj Mehta, Founder of the Bhagavan Mahavir Vikalang Sahayata Samithi, Padmashree Aloysius Prakash Fernandes for his outstanding contribution to rural development through MYRADA, Anand Kumar who is helping underprivileged children attain higher education and renowned singer Padmashree A Hariharan.
The Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala was conferred at a function held at Dharmasthala recently.
The function was followed by a musical programme by Hariharan.
