Congress victory rally at Kunjathbail stoned ; Ex-BJP corporator arrested

Mangalore, march 15, 2013 : Several people were injured when a clash broke out between the supporters of the newly elected Congress corporator from Kunjathbail ward Mohammad and another group after stones were pelted at the victory march organised by the corporator in his ward on March 14, Thursday night.

The incident took place when the procession was about to end. As soon as stones were pelted, there was a clash between the trouble mongers and those participating in the rally, resulting in several injuries. Source said the situation became further tense when Bhajrangdal leaders including Sharan Pumpwell arrived at the spot.

The Kavoor police who rushed to the spot, resorted to a mild caning and brought the situation under control. The former corporator Sharath Kumar has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police maintained a strict vigil throughout the night to avert any untoward incident.

There are reports that the supporters of the arrested former corporator are planning to lay siege to the Kavoor police station on March 15, Friday demanding his release.
