Mangalore, May 1: At a press meet organized in observance of Workers’ Day at the district congress office on May 1, 2010, Ivan D’Souza, the congress leader and advocate, said unorganized workers including bus workers, beedi workers, head load workers, and other workers constitute 92 percent of the total work force.

Stating that these unorganized workers do not receive any government benefits, he urged the government to implement laws for the provision of all necessary facilities. He added that 5000 unorganized workers hardly get any holiday, but government workers not only have holidays, but also salary and other facilities. 

Congress member M G Hegde accused Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali of not being able to provide gold medals for rank students. He also said all advocates of education must give a gold medal to the education minister so that he can give it to the rank students. 


MLA Ramanath Rai urged the government to provide facilities and beneficiary schemes, including medical facilities and scholarships, to the children of unorganized workers.


Sadhashiv Ullal proposed the vote of thanks. Praveen Chandra, the leader of Yuva Congress, and Sudhir were present for the press conference.
