Speaking on the occasion, DK Congress leader and advocate Mr Ivan D’souza said that a government supporting such shameful activities should be brought down from power. Expressing strong objection to the actions of the minister as well as the Chief Minister he said, “As public, we should all be united and protest the rule of such a government which protects criminals. Dikkara to the CM and BJP who are misusing their authority and trying to close down the case.” He also questioned as to how the CM could pass judgments that the accused is innocent without any investigation.

Mr Ramanath Rai, District President of the party and the president of the protest, said that the case should be handed over to the CBI for enquiry and that Governor’s rule should be implemented in the state. “A government which came to power saying it would make the state a Raama rajya, has made the state Raavana raajya today. They sought votes in the name of religion and faith, and they have broken the faith of the very same people. The Appa’s in the ministry are all corrupt and deceiving the public.”

Another eminent speaker requested the Police to arrest the CM under Section 201 of the IPC, for having violated the law and also mocked at the CM who otherwise says ‘everyone is equal before law.’

Mr Abhay Chandra Jain asked the people to judge the performance of the government themselves. He claimed it is evident that there have been attempts to suppress law and the public. The government is trying to deviate us from the truth, be it the Padma Priya case or the Preetham case, he added. The government should stop using flowery words and instead let its action speak, he said.
Swearing with names of God and parents is just an emotional attempt to escape from the public and will not be tolerated he warned.

District Congress Women’s President Mamata Gatty recalled the statement of Mahatma Gandhi- only when a woman in the country is safe to walk at midnight on the road, will India be free. She said that this is remains a dream for women in Karnataka and requested public not to open doors for the BJP. She also expressed her pride over the fact that she was a part of Congress which respects women.

The protest ended with the party workers burning the effigy of Mr Halalappa and shouting slogans against him.

Senior congress leaders and youth congress members were present.
