Like every year, this year too the  ICYM unit of Holy Cross Church  have started  Christmas Carols going from door to door and giving the message regarding birth of Jesus Christ on Monday December 14 here and surrounding areas, The enthusiastic carol singers brought the joy of Christmas to the families with their melodious Konkani and English carols along with the Christmas message. The event began at 8.pm in the night.

The young and old alike joined together and shared the joy and peace of Christmas. The Santa was the star attraction, who made children happy by distributing gifts and goodies.

The Children’s, who paraded throughout the Kulshekar area, dressed as angels and shepherds accompanying Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus - they looked wonderful and sang the carols beautifully.” The children were very excited about dressing up and bringing the true message of Christmas to the community.”

Enlivening the spirits of children is the caroling time which is one of the most enjoyable experiences for kids. It is believed that at the time of Christ’s birth, the angles sang several songs when they met the shepherd to disclose the news of Jesus’ birth. Henceforth, the practice followed and it became a tradition to sing carols on the day of Christmas

Signifying the birth of Jesus, these carols make children aware of the "Son of God" and his life. The positive effect and vibes created by the Christmas kids music can be felt in the air when kids sing the carols together in chorus. The whole environment fills with harmony and joy.

Remembering Jesus and singing in praise of him brings them closer to the religion and also his teachings, thereby taking them to a new level of spirituality. They learn about the good and evil, the virtue and vice. These basic understandings lay their lifetime foundation.

Christmas Carols

A Christmas carol is also known as a Noel. The lyrics of a Christmas carol do not have to be only about Christmas. They can also be about special winter activities or about the season in general. The first Christmas carols were community songs, which were sung not only to celebrate Christmas, but also the harvest season. Later on, these songs began to assume a greater religious significance, especially once they started to be sung as a part of church worship.

A typical Christmas carol consists of at least one verse and a chorus. The carol will have a distinct tune, which is usually based on musical arrangements and chords of the medieval period. This is why carol tunes are similar to those of western classical music. For example, the carol ’Angels from the realms of glory’ is one of the oldest known carols, whose origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages. This is one of the few ancient carols that are still sung in churches today.

In recent years carols have started to be segregated. Those tunes that do not have religious lyrics are often termed as ’Christmas songs’ rather than carols. This has been done primarily as a politically correct measure. Since a Christmas song is more festive rather than religious, it enables people of other faiths to take part in group singing events without being disrespectful to their own religious beliefs. However, in many places, there is no such distinction between carols.
