Chikkamagaluru, Oct 23, 2025: A major train accident was narrowly avoided in Kanive village in the coffee-rich Malenadu region after heavy rains eroded the gravel beneath the railway track. Swift action by railway staff prevented a potential disaster.
Persistent rainfall through Wednesday night caused nearby drains to overflow, washing away the stones supporting the track. As a passenger train traveling from Chikkamagaluru to Shivamogga approached Kanive, railway personnel spotted the hazard and immediately alerted the loco pilot.
Thanks to the timely warning, the train came to a halt safely. Railway staff then carried out emergency repairs, completing temporary restoration within 30 minutes, after which the train was able to continue its journey to Shivamogga.
