Mangalore, October 5: The feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the Capuchins and the Secular Franciscan Order, was celebrated at Assisi Nilaya, the formation house of the Capuchins, near Naalku Beedhi, Kattingeri on Oct 4, Monday.

A festive mass was celebrated, before which Superior and Director of Assisi Nilaya Fr. Maxim Pinto welcomed the chief celebrant Rev. Dr. Vincent Gabriel Furtado, the provincial of the Holy Trinity Province of Karnataka. Fr. Manoj D’Souza, the secretary to the provincial; Fr. Peter Cyprian D’Souza, the superior of St. Anne’s Friary at Bejai; all the diocesan priests from Udupi Varado, the Bethany sisters of Loretto Convent; and the members of the Secular Franciscan Order also received a warm welcome.

 

A total of 16 priests concelebrated the festive mass, following which Fr. Maxim Pinto delivered the vote of thanks. Rev. Dr. Baptist Menezes, the Episcopal vicar of Udupi, delivered the homily. The festive mass was followed by a sumptuous dinner.

 

The Capuchins have 23 hours and 25 mission centres all over India, Japan, Shri Lanka, Turkey, Uganda, and the Middle East.
