Mangalore, Dec 5, 2013: CPI(M) DK district committee secretary K R Shriyan said that the even though the CPI(M) had staged state wide protest against the Pankthi Bhedha at Udupi Sri Krishna Temple and after receiving the High Court’s order to stop the system, the temple is continuing it.
Addressing the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 5, Thursday, he said that it is the duty of the government to educate people to shun such practices like Made madesnane at Kukke Subramanya Temple and Pankthi Bhedha at Udupi Sri Krishna Temple.
They also condemned inhuman practice of ‘Made Snana,’ a ritual in which devotees rolling over leftovers of food partaken by Brahmins on plantain leaves to fulfill vow, began at the famous Kukke Subramanaya temple.
They demanded that these ill practices should be immediately banned and equality should be maintained through social justice.
All human beings are equal in the eyes of God. But casteism is still practiced in the society even after getting Independence after 6 decades. Such practices are supported and patronized by politicians and Matadhipathis for their gains, they alleged.
The CPI (M) will stage a massive protest to oppose such ill practices in front of DC Office on Dec 8, Sunday at 10.30 am, he said.
CPI(M) leaders Vasanth Achary and Balakrishna Shetty were present at the press meet.
