Udupi: Woman duped of nearly 2 lakh in fake credit card update scam

Udupi, Aug 4, 2026: A woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 1,99,696.06 in a cyber fraud after fraudsters tricked her into clicking a fake link on the pretext of updating her credit card protection plan.

According to police, the victim, identified as Aishwarya, received a phone call on July 27 from an unidentified person claiming that her credit card protection plan required an update. The caller directed her to click on a link, which led her to a fake website resembling that of her bank.

After she accessed the link, Rs 1,99,696.06 was fraudulently debited from her credit card account.

Based on her complaint, the Kota Police Station has registered a case under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act and launched an investigation.
