Mangalore, Sept. 22, 2011: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has renewed its investigation on the mysterious death of C. M. Abdul Musliyar Chembarikka, the late Qazi of Mangalore, who was found dead by the seashore near his residence on Feb 15, 2010.

The Bekal police and the police crime branch had first conducted investigations on this case, but the Qazi’s family was not satisfied with the work done by the police, owing to which the family demanded a CBI inquiry into the case. The CBI visited the Qazi’s village a number of times but could not unearth any vital clue that could throw light on the case.

The CBI had temporarily withdrawn from the case a couple of months back since it could not make any progress in the case and had also submitted a report to the director, writing off the death as suicide. However, several quarters imposed pressure on the CBI to re-open the case and investigate it afresh, owing to which the case has been handed over to another unit of the CBI.

Rekhesh Kumar, the superintendent of police CBI of Thiruvananthapuram unit, and Lasser, the circle inspector; and Nandakumar, the additional SP, visited the Qazi’s residence on September 21, Wednesday. The team also paid a visit to the place where the Qazi’s body was found.

The three surgeons who had conducted a forensic investigation of the Qazi’s body also accompanied the CBI team.
