Mangalore, May 31: In a strange episode, a Bison has been found roaming in the runway of Mangalore Airport since two days. The wild animal was seen roaming in the runway by the airport fire force on Tuesday, May 29 and was driven away. However, the animal appeared again on Wednesday, May 31. Airport authority has informed the forest department and the bison was chased away.
According to airport sources, the bison entered the runway from the nearby woods and began running along it, causing panic among airport workers. However, the airport authorities took immediate steps to make the runway safe for landing flights.
M. R. Vasudeva Rao, director of Mangalore Airport, said that the bison has gone away and everything is back to normal.
Incidentally, animals barging into the Bajpe Airport runway are not something new. There are times domestic animals like cows, dogs and goats make appearance in the runway.
Animals enter the airport through the eastern side which is still open partially. Airport authorities are making all efforts to avoid re-occurrence of such incidence in future.
