Bengaluru, June 5, 2025: A total of 11 fans lost their lives and 47 others were injured in a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebration, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed.
The stampede occurred as thousands gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy win after 18 years. The sudden surge of people led to chaos near the stadium, resulting in the tragic incident.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened an emergency meeting in the evening and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The government will also bear the complete medical expenses of those injured in the incident.
The Chief Minister said a magisterial inquiry led by the district deputy commissioner has been ordered to investigate the incident.
Those injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, including Vaidehi Super Speciality Hospital, Bowring Hospital, and Lady Curzon Hospital, for treatment.
