 Mangalore, Oct 3, 2013 : A construction worker met a tragic end when he drowned  in the River Netravathi here on October 2, Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Aboobakker Siddique(35) who was engaged in the construction of  a compound wall nearby. Sources said Siddique who hailed from Guruvayanakere, had  been to the river  for ablution before going the nearby mosque for namaz. However, to his misfortune, he slipped and was  washed away.

Though  some locals rushed to the spot and  plunged into the river to rescue him, it was of no avail. Later the fire service personnel were informed. However, locals were agitated when they arrived at the venue after over an hour. The body of Siddique was traced in the evening.

The deceased is survived by his wife and a 11 month old baby. Bantwal Town Police have registered a case of unnatural death.
