Speaking about the state government’s achievements, he said that the government has initiated development projects worth Rs. 33.53 crore in 34 villages, adding that 80% of all the projects funded last year have been completed. He also said that the higher education department has released Rs. 12 crore to provide basic facilities such as rest rooms for ladies, class rooms, and scientific laboratories.

He also said that NABARD has approved Rs. 5 crore for the construction of a bridge between Haleangady and Sasihithlu, which will be completed by 15 months.

Funds insufficient

Delivering the presidential address, MLA Abhayachandra Jain said that, while northern Karnataka has been experiencing droughts, southern Karnataka has been experiencing floods because of damaged retention walls of vented dams and heavy rainfall leading to flooding of River Nandini and River Shambhavi. The floods have destroyed huge tracts of agricultural land, he added.

Stating that the funds released by the state government are insufficient to provide flood relief, he urged the district-in-charge minister to seriously consider this issue and help the farmers.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, ZP Health and Education Department President Ishwar Kateel, MLC Monappa Bhandary, ZP CEO Dr. Vijayprakash, and many others were also present.

Inauguration

C. T. Ravi inaugurated a layout with 95 plots and 20 houses. The layout, which is worth Rs. 33.30 crore, was constructed under the Suvarna Karnataka Housing Scheme and was funded by the Karnataka Housing Board. It is located in Bellare in Padupanambur GP.

The minister also inaugurated a concrete road worth Rs. 2 crore constructed between Golijaru and Guttakadu in Kinnigoli under the rural road development project and a meeting hall constructed in Mennabettu and Kemral by the Bharath Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra.
