Mr. Shetty, who was in Mr. Kumaraswamy’s cabinet when the JD(S) – BJP coalition government was in power, said that his only wish is to see Kumarswamy as the chief minister once again. He also denied that he has any business dealings with Mr. Kumaraswamy and his brother H. D. Revanna.

Stating that the BJP-led state government is following a “divide and rule” policy, he said that the BJP has destroyed the communal harmony of the district and that there is a need to re-establish the harmonious atmosphere of the past. Regarding his RSS background, he said that they were taught to love everyone in the RSS. Stating that he is a “small man,” he said that he looks up to senior JD(S) leaders such as Amarnath Shetty for guidance.

Lauding Mr. Shetty for joining the JD(S), Mr. Kumaraswamy said that Mr. Shetty’s move of joining the JD(S) as a worker after leaving his post of chairman of the CDA is nothing short of a sacrifice. Stating that people like Mr. Shetty, who were responsible for bringing the BJP to power, have been neglected by BJP leaders such as Yeddyurappa, he said that Yeddyurappa is under the impression that the BJP came to power only because of him and has forgotten the role of other leaders. Flaying the BJP government for spreading hatred in society, he demanded to know why Hindus should hate Muslims when so many Hindus are earning in Gulf countries.

Referring to the home stay attack, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the police knew that the group was making plans to attack the youngsters well in advance. Although the police knew all about the illegal activities that were taking place there, they allowed these illegal activities to take place after receiving their monthly hafta, he said, adding that the police did not hesitate to file charge sheet against the media persons who exposed the wrongdoings.

JD(S) leaders Zameer Ahmed Khan, Madhu Bangarappa, M. G. Hegde, D. M. Aslam, and others were also present.
