Ayodhya Verdict postponed - prohibitory orders withdrawn, holidays cancelled

Mangalore, September 23: The Supreme Court has stayed the verdict to be given on the Babri Masjid issue, following which the district administrations of the twin districts have withdrawn the 3-day prohibitory orders imposed on the districts in a bid to maintain peace.

DC V. Ponnuraj told Mangalore Today that there will be no prohibitory orders. He said that the district administration had decided to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC from 6 a.m. on Friday to the midnight of Sunday, but had decided to change their decision owing to the postponement of the verdict. 

DC of Udupi district P. Hemalatha said that she is instructing the concerned authorities to withdraw the decision to impose prohibitory orders. 
 
City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh informed Mangalore Today that all the additional police forces deployed to maintain peace in Mangalore will be withdrawn. The police route march, scheduled to be held in the city’s sensitive areas, stands cancelled.

 
Deputy Director of Public Instruction C. Chame Gowda said that schools and colleges will remain open on Friday and Saturday. The state government’s earlier instruction of declaring a 2-day holiday on September 24 – 25 stands cancelled.
