Attempt was made to murder me – Rahim Uchil

Mangalore, Apr 20, 2012 : Rahim Uchil, the president of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, issued his first press release after recovering from the attempt to murder him on the part of a group of miscreants, in which he stated that wants to reveal some facts about the incident.

He said that an attempt was made to murder him only because he is an active BJP member who exercised his freedom of speech. He also said that the chief accused is in police custody and has already revealed the names of his accomplices.

The press release also states that the police maintained secrecy to facilitate investigation. Some of the miscreants are absconding and airport authorities across India have been alerted to prevent them from going abroad.

Rahim Uchil was attacked on March 15 by a group of six unidentified people. Rushed to hospital in a critically injured condition, Mr. Uchil was declared out of danger by doctors the following day. Several political leaders visited him in hospital.

In the media release, Mr. Uchil expressed confidence in the judiciary. Stating that he is sure of getting justice, he said that he pardons them for their crime.

Clarifying that he has always helped his community throughout his political career, he said that some people in his community planned to murder him as they had wrong notions about him.

Mr. Uchil also thanked the doctors and medical staff that took care of him and the 24-hour police security provided for him in hospital. He also thanked the public for their prayers and support.
