Assaulted students were celebrating friend’s birthday

Mangalore, July 29, 2012: Last night, members of the Hindu Janajagruthi Vedike (HJV) barged into Morning Mist Home Stay and assaulted a group of boys and girls who were partying there on grounds that they were taking part in a rave party. The assaulted students, however, informed the media that they were celebrating the birthday of one of their friends.

Clarifying that they were not taking part in a rave party, the students said that they were celebrating the birthday of Vijay, one of their friends. Vijay also produced his birth certificate before reporters. Stating that they were not involved in illegal acts, the students said that they did not have any drugs in their possession.

Stating that they intended to celebrate Vijay’s birthday by cutting a cake and that they did not even have any music on, the students said that HJV members arrived all of a sudden and began assaulting them.

Gurdutt Kamath, one of the students at the party, said that HJV members began verbally abusing them and physically assaulting them without even listening to what they had to say.
