Arjun Adappa, Prerna Rai emerge winners of under 14 chess championship

Mangalore, Oct 6, 2011 :Arjun Adappa emerged as the champion in the Boys Under 14 Chess Championship organized by Kings Academy in Mangalore for the Karnataka State Chess Association in Derik’s Chess School, Mangalore.

Athul Shetty, Akhil R. M., Yashas Smaga, and Anutthama A. ended up in a tie, but Athul ended up as the runner up while the others were placed in the third to fifth positions. Shreyas Pandith, Dhrikshu Vasanth, Abhishek Bht, and Shashank Katta were placed in the sixth to ninth positions.

In the girls’ category, the game between Prerna Rai and Reesha Shenoy ended up in a tie, with certain tiebreak points putting Prerna in the top position and Reesha as the runner up.

The third to seventh positions were occupied by Yogitha Mohan Naik, Ishani Rai, Manasa Karath, Shreya Bhat, and Adithi Suvarna.

Entrepreneur John Fernandes and Karnataka State Chess Association President Derik Pinto distributed prizes in the presence of Kings Academy Secretary C. A. Radesh Shenoy, Coordinator Praveen Kamath, Chief Arbiter Sabitha Kunder, and others.

The top two players in each category will be representing the state in the CAI’s national under 14 chess championship.
