Alleged harassment drives student to suicide

Mangalore, Apr 10, 2012: An engineering student committed suicide  on April 10 Tuesday allegedly harassed by one of her lecturers.

 

Mehnaz (19), a student of PA College of Engineering (PACE) committed suicide by hanging herself in a room adjacent to her own in the college women’s hostel in Nadupadav in Kairangala. 

When the other students found her, she was still alive. Although they rushed her to the hospital, she could not be saved. 

Since her parents, who originally hail from Kulai, are in the Saudi Arabia, she stayed in the women’s hostel. 

Meanwhile, the students have alleged that she committed suicide because one of the lecturers used to harass her a lot. A number of students gathered in the campus and began protesting. They remained protesting on the campus, demanding justice for the deceased, till the final reports came in. 

Her parents have already been informed and the death will be thoroughly investigated once they arrive from Saudi Arabia.
