Mangalore, Dec 5, 2013: Midday meal workers under the banner Karnataka Rajya Akshara Dasaho Naukarara Sangha affiliated to CITU protested in front of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office on Dec 5, Thursday, demanding to extend the basic facilities for Midday meal workers.
Addressing the protestors, CITU district president Balakrishna Shetty said that the government has implemented Aksharadasoha scheme under the pressure of various protestors. Although, the government had implemented the Aksharadasoha scheme, it did not provide any basic facilities for the workers.
He also said that the government is making them to work for low salary and do not provide any life security. Suffering from this scheme, the Aksharadasoha workers have staged indefinite stir in Bangalore and the district workers in city, stage protest in their support.
They also demanded the government to increase the salary to Rs 10,000 for the workers and stop the plan to privatize the scheme. The government which has handed over the Aksharadasoha programme to ISCKON has unemployed 40,000 workers. They must also implement life security scheme immediately to the workers, they added.
CITU district vice president Rohini B Shetty, secretary Vasanth Achary, Aksharadasoha workers as association leader Padma Shetty, Radha Moodbidri, Bhavya Gurpura and others were present.
