Bhatkal, July 9: Abdul Samad Mohammed Zarrer Sidibapa finally returned to his hometown of Bhatkal after being released on bail by a Mumbai court.
He was arrested at Mangalore International Airport by the Maharashtra anti terrorism squad (ATS) on grounds of being involved in the Pune German Bakery blast and was later booked in the illegal arms case of 2009.
Samad and his family refused to issue any statements to the media. Samad also refused to answer reporters’ queries regarding his arrest and release, but he expressed his gratefulness to the people of Bhatkal and the media for their support.
The members of Samad’s family objected to part of the media labelling Bhatkal as the town of terror as this will create a wrong impression of the people of Bhatkal, irrespective of their community or religion.
Mohammed Ali, the uncle of Samad, said that Yasin Bhatkal, who is accused of terrorist activities, is not Samad’s brother. He clarified that Samad’s brother, Mohammed Ahmed, walked out of home after a quarrel with his father and that nobody knows about his whereabouts.
