Mangalore, Dec 15, 2011 : Thieves have stolen Rs. 32 lakhs, which was meant to be deposited into an ATM machine in Mangalore. This happened in broad daylight in Milagres on Dec 15 Thursday.
According to the latest report, the thieves were caught at Ajjar and were taken to the Mangalore rural police station.






In all, four people from UP were arrested and the police station had to be locked from the inside to keep reporters out. According to reliable sources, the police have launched a manhunt for two more thieves who are absconding. It is rumored that a bus conductor helped the police catch the thieves.
The security personnel had arrived in a car filled with bags of money, which was meant to be deposited in the SBI ATM in Milagres. One of them carried a bag inside the ATM, leaving the others inside the car.
The thieves, who were observing from a distance, diverted the attention of the car driver by placing a Rs. 10 note on the car. When the driver got out, the thieves lifted the bags and fled the scene with Rs. 32 lakh, which was inside the bags.
DCP Dharmaiah and other police personnel visited the place.
When the police were on the trail of the ATM thieves, a bus unintentionally got into their way. Furious officers thrashed the bus driver, an incident that has put all bus drivers on the war path. They are now on a protest.
Assault on bus driver who interrupted police chase leads to bus strike
The situation was tense at Pumpwell today when a policeman thrashed a bus driver who unintentionally blocked a police vehicle, which was in hot pursuit of ATM cash thieves.
This morning, a gang of thieves stole Rs. 32 lakhs, which was to have been fed into an ATM machine at Milagres.




The police began chasing the thieves, but were forced to stop when a Suvarna bus got into their way at Pumpwell. A furious policeman jumped out of the police vehicle and began kicking Madhu, the driver of the bus.
According to eyewitnesses, the policeman kicked the driver so hard that he was badly hurt and the gold chain he was wearing round his neck broke. One of the three police vehicles involved in the chase took the driver to the police station, after which he will be taken to Wenlock Hospital.
Bus drivers, angered by the incident, began protesting on the spot. All the city buses have stopped plying and police had to use their lathis to bring the situation under control.
The sudden bus strike has affected areas such as Thokkottu, Kankanady, and Padil.
Senior police officers ACP Gadadi, Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, and others are at Pumpwell right now.
