Mangalore, May 7: ABVP activists took out a protest rally demanding action against vice- chancellors of universities who have practiced nepotism in appointments, check the donation menace and thus stop further commercialisation of education, in Mangalore on Saturday, May 7.

Stating that University of Mysore former VC Shashidhara Prasad, former VC of Bijapur Women’s University Saeeda Akhtar, Rajiv Gandhi University for Health Sciences former VC Dr Prabhakaran among others had flouted the norms set by UGC, violated the rooster and had ignored the directions given by the court too.
They had practiced casteism by appointing people from their own community. Rajiv Gandhi University VC had committed the biggest of blunders by issuing question papers in advance to 52 students and had helped 17 among them secure ranks.
Though the government had carried out an investigation into corruption charges, the report was yet to see light of the day. Urging the state government to initiate action against them, activists of ABVP submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
Institing that a Student Lokpal bill be drafted on the lines Jan Lokpal bill for the welfare of students, the protesters said though donation menace was affecting people across schools, classes and courses there was not even a single example of government punishing the authorities of schools who had demanded donation.
“This menace is present everywhere — right from LKG to professional courses. Even Universities are no exception to this,” the protesters said.
