Mangaluru, Mar 6, 2026: Senior writer and journalist Hemacharya has released the second volume of his book “Amchi Mathi Amchi Monxam,” two decades after the first volume was published in 2005.

The first volume, which contained 28 articles highlighting stalwarts of the Christian–Konkani community, was released during the Daiji Dubai anniversary event at the Indian Consulate by coastal region entrepreneur and builder Rohan Monteiro. The book received an overwhelming response, with copies selling out quickly.

Twenty years later, Hemacharya has brought out the second volume featuring 47 prominent Konkani personalities. Among those featured are Rohan Monteiro, now regarded as one of the leading builders in the coastal region, and philanthropist Michael D’Souza, known for his generous contributions to humanitarian causes.

The book also includes profiles of several notable personalities such as Austin D’Souza Prabhu, a US-based Mangalorean journalist and writer who supported the project financially; Concepta Alva of All India Radio fame; senior journalist Gabriel Vaz; Bengaluru entrepreneur Jacob Crasta; philanthropist Joseph Mathias; KKSA president Stany Alvares; builder and social reformer Roy Castelino; and Prof. Valerian Crasta, the first Mangalorean to serve as a lecturer at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman.

In addition, the book highlights prominent GSB Konkani personalities including Basti Vaman Shenoy of VKK fame, jeweller Raghunath Shet of S L Shet Jewellers & Diamonds, banker-author K G Mallya, who has written 27 books on banking practices, and Kasargod Chinna, known for promoting the Konkani language through the “Ghar Ghar Konkani Abhiyan.”

The volume also features articles on priests and nuns from the region, including Rev. Peter Noronha, Fr. Charles Vas, Rev. Mark Valder, Fr. Rupert Capuchin, Rev. Paul D’Cunha, Fr. S. D’Cunha, Rev. Victor Pinto—who translated the New Testament into Konkani—and Dr. Sr. Lilian of Bethany, former head of Concetta Hospital in Kinnigoli.

Profiles of Konkani literary figures such as Edwin J. F. D’Souza, Herolpius, Gladys Sequeira, Maurice Cabral, Paul Moras and Richie Pais, as well as music legends including Apolinaris D’Souza and Lawrence Saldanha, also feature in the book.

The book has been dedicated to Eric Ozario, popularly known as “Thakanathlolo Juzari,” and Joyce Ozario, known as “Konknni Abolem.” It was officially released on March 1 during the “Mainyali Manchi” programme at Kalangann.

The release event is expected to feature a music programme by Robin Sequeira and his troupe.

The book is priced at Rs 350 until the Easter festival and Rs 399 thereafter. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Ian Cares Foundation, which works to treat and rehabilitate youth affected by drug abuse, alcoholism and depression.
