Udupi, Mar 6, 2026: As many as 93 of the 155 gram panchayats (GPs) and 24 wards under town panchayats in Udupi district are likely to face drinking water shortage during the summer.
Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa on Thursday (March 5) directed officials to take necessary measures to ensure that the district does not face any drinking water problems in the coming days.
Chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee at Rajatadri, the district office complex in Manipal, she said that according to reports, 14 GPs in Karkala taluk, 36 in Kundapur, 15 in Byndoor, nine in Udupi, 13 in Brahmavara, four in Kapu, and two in Hebri taluk are expected to experience drinking water shortages during the summer.
In addition, five wards in Saligrama Town Panchayat and 19 wards in Byndoor Town Panchayat are also likely to face water scarcity.
