96 percent in Udupi town paid taxes – MLA Raghupathi Bhat

Udupi, Apr 10, 2012 : Addressing reporters at a press meet held in Udupi on April 9 Monday, MLA Raghupathi Bhat declared that 96 percent of the residents of the town have paid their taxes and assisted development work.

He also urged the public to use water sparingly as the water stored in the reservoir is getting exhausted at the rate of 5cm/day. He also said that a large overhead tank is being constructed at Doddanagudde. 

Rs. 4 crore is being spent on the construction of the Town Hall, which will have a capacity for 850 seats. It is scheduled to be inaugurated by the chief minister in May. Besides, Rs. 1 crore has been released for the development of Bhujanga Park, which will comprise a lawn and an open air theatre.

The state government has also approved the tender process to construct the Malpe to Padukare Bridge, a project worth Rs. 700 crore, he said, adding that the foundation stone for the Kalsanka to Gundibail road worth Rs. 8 crore will be laid soon. He also said that the road connecting Malpe Citizen Circle to the beach will be converted into four lanes.

Further, he said that the foundation stone has been laid for the construction of a fish market worth Rs. 2 crore. This market can accommodate 60 vendors and will have rest room facilities for fisherwomen. The CM has released Rs. 30 crore for the market under the small and medium development programs, he added.
