4 arrested for torching Modi banner at Mudipu

Mangalore, Sep 25, 2013: Konaje police have arrested four persons from Mudipu area on the charges of torching the banner depicting Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, which was put  up at Muloor Cross near Mudipu Junction.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Azwin, Nawaz, Ziyad and Rahim. They were apprehended near Nandarapaddu following a tip off.The  incident had taken place on September 18 wherein the Modi banner was partially damaged.

The four had initially picked up a quarrel with Abdul Rahiman, a tempo driver and had later assaulted him. They had even damaged his tempo and stoned a bus passing that way before torching the banner.

Police said the four had fled to Kerala after damaging the banner.

Meanwhile,  sources said it is  not yet clear if the accused   were also responsible for damaging  another banner of Modi at Gurupur on September 20.

Investigations are underway.
