Belthangady, Oct.1, 2012:  “India being a multi-religious and multi-cultural society, its youth have the power to lead the nation successfully. The youth must engage themselves in creative activities and lead the nation. The Karnataka Yuvajanotsava has provided a suitable platform to identify and encourage young talents, “said Vincent Pal, Union Minister of State for Minorities and Water Resources.


He was speaking after flagging off a  Peace Rally on September 30, Sunday, organised on the concluding day  of the three day Karnataka Yuvajanotsava 2012, the eight   Regional Catholic Youth Convention   at the Holy Redeemer Church premises Belthangady,  under the aegis of the Youth Commission of Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council and Youth Indian Catholic Movement of Belthangady Diocese.

Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M. Veerappa Moily who also spoke, said  India is a nation where each individual is given equal opportunities irrespective of any other consideration. Ours is a nation which  gives top most priority to values and it is our duty to take a pledge to uphold noble values and virtues, he added. He also recalled his student days  when Christian nuns encouraged him to study hard and succeed. He further said he will be indebted forever to these personalities.


Entrepreneuur Ronald Colaco, who too participated as a chief guest, said every individual has the right to lead a peaceful life of self-respect. He also exhorted youngsters to evince interest in politics. While stating that the Christian community has contributed immensely to the society, he also emphasized the need for each and every individual to lead a life through peaceful co-existence.


Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes called upon the youth to lead the nation on the right direction, while local MLA K Vasanth Bangera expressed his happiness over this convention being held in his constituency.


Dr Bernard Moras, Arch Bishop of Bangalore Diocese, who presided over the function, hoped the Yuvajanotsava would herald a change in the society. He urged the young population to dedicate their lives for the cause of the nation and also to serve their religion.”Let us build a strong and flourishing India by channelizing our youth power in the right direction,” he said.


Outstanding young achievers were honored with Karnataka Catholic Yuva Rathna Awards  on the occasion. The Award recipients were Roshan Ferrao of Ranipura in Mangalore (Sports) who is also the Ekalavya Award winner, Roshan Joseph Mysore( Solid waste management), Cajetan Dias Honnavar(Art and Culture), Jose Jacob, Bangalore (IT), DB Tech ( training to rural youth) and Sabitha Monis, a special achiever.


All those who assisted in the successful conduct of the convention, were also felicitated on the occasion. A live concert by Kevin Misquith enthralled the audience.


Fr. Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary, Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of Belthangady, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Fr Geevarghese Mar Divannasios of Puttur,  Fr. Joseph Arumachadath of Bhadravathi, Fr.Peter Machado of Belgaum, Dr. Thomasappa Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur, Dr. Robert Miranda of Gulbarga, Dr Gerald Isac Lobo, Bishop of Shimoga and Bishop elect of Udupi Diocese, Dr. Deric Fernandes of Karwar, Dr. George Nijaralakkatt of Mandya, Dr. Thomas Vazhapally of Mysore, Fr James D’Souza, Parish Priest  of Holy Redeemer Church, Fr Franklin, Fr Eliyas, Fr Jobi Pullat, youth representatives Brijesh, Joslin, Sunny Cutinha, Joslin Vas were on the dais.


B Ramanatha Rai, Bantwal MLA, Muguli Narayana Rao, Town Panchayat President, Vinaykumar Sorake,former MP, Ivan D’Souza, Congress leader,  Immanuel Santosh, President of  Youth Indian Catholic Movement,Blossom Fernandes, Sr. Lily Rose, Vijesh Nandalatt  Totattady, too were present on the occasion.


Fr Mari Joseph, Secretary of the Karnataka Regional Catholic Youth  organization, welcomed the gathering.Nelson Ujire, President of ICYM Mangalore unit and Nishmitha Belthangady compered the programme.


Over 5000 youth took part in the peace rally and the valedictory function. The peace rally was taken out from Taluk Office Grounds to  the Holy Redeemer Church.
