11 arrested in attempt to murder and robbery case

Udupi, Apr 22, 2012: SP Dr. Boralingaiah told reporters at a press conference held on April 21 Saturday that the police have arrested 11 people with regard to the attempt to murder Mahendra and his wife Anupama and Shabarish of Shantinagar and to steal their gold ornaments. 

He said that a gang of 10 – 15 people, under the leadership of Golden Suresh, tried to kill the trio as an act of revenge.

 

The police acted on a tip off, formed two teams, and located the cars used by the accused. They had to give chase for a long time before the accused could be caught. Five of them tried to escape while one of them tried to attack the police with swords. The police fired 3 rounds in defense, upon which the accused fled leaving behind all their weapons. The police had to give chase once again, but two of them managed to escape. 

The police also confiscated 13 mobile phones and 6 weapons such as machetes and swords from the arrested. Their Alto car and a Maruthi Omni were also confiscated. 

The SP said that the plan to attack the couple was made by Kabir of Kaup and Golden Suresh and that the police have launched a manhunt for these two as well as Jaleel and Jafar who are absconding. 

The SP presented a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 to the team that cracked the case. IGP (Western Range) Prathap Reddy and DG-IGP A. R. Infant are expected to present a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
