On September 16 evening, three armed robbers stormed into the bank, threatened six staff members and four customers with pistols and knives, tied them up, and looted Rs 1.04 crore in cash along with 20 kg of gold ornaments before fleeing. Bank robbery

That very night, while fleeing towards Pandharpur in Maharashtra, the accused met with an accident near Hulajanti village in Solapur district. They abandoned their car and escaped. Some cash and gold were found inside the damaged vehicle.

Since then, Karnataka and Maharashtra police have been working jointly to trace the culprits. On Thursday evening, a bag was found in an abandoned house in Hulajanti village. At a press briefing on Friday, Vijayapura SP Lakshman Nimbargi confirmed that the bag contained 136 packets of gold weighing 6.54 kg and Rs 41.04 lakh cash.

He further said that within one and a half hours of the robbery, police had traced the car used by the accused. The vehicle, which was stolen, had 21 packets of gold and Rs 1.03 lakh in cash when first checked. Villagers had also confronted the accused after the accident, but the robbers threatened them before escaping.

Police revealed that the same gang had stolen bikes and cars earlier, and used one such stolen car for this robbery. A case regarding the stolen vehicle has already been registered in Solapur.

SP Nimbargi assured that Karnataka and Solapur police teams are jointly working to track down the remaining stolen property and nab the absconding robbers at the earliest.
